I had an interesting conversation with my five year old daughter, Britton, last night (2/14/17.) I wanted to teach her new things about God while we were on our trip from one suburb to another. I asked her this question, what came first, the chicken or the egg?
She answered, flip flopping between the answers as I reminded her that the chickens produce the eggs, and an egg turns into a chicken. She came to her own conclusion without my help. She said God made the mother and father chicken and they produced the eggs. I went on to explain to her why she was right.
Chicken first can be confirmed in Genesis 1:29-30 (scriptures in NKJV)
29 And God said, "See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. 30 Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food"; and it was so. 31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
- Genesis 1:29-30 NKJV
This shows that on day 5
of creation (as confirmed by verse 31, indicating the next day was the sixth day), God was already speaking to man and God told man that every fruit bearing tree and every green herb was given for food.
This tells us that on day 5, man was fully mature and able to understand - he could hear and understand when God spoke to him. This is a grown man. And he can only eat green herbs for food on day 5 if they are already fully formed and he is able to digest them. Babies drink milk, etc. - this isn't a baby. He has food, these aren't seeds.
Thus, the chicken came first. The pattern God established is that He creates fully mature things first. He created man, not baby. He created animals fully mature as well (Gen 2:19-20 - expounding on day 6. This passage only makes sense with fully mature animals, not embryos)
The trees are fully formed during the first 6 days. At this point, if a scientist had chopped one down, though it is only a few days old, the scientist would conclude through the Scientific Method that if the tree had 10 rings, the tree is 10 years old (see: Dendrochronology
.) If it had 40 rings, it is 40 years old, etc. I am convinced that:
(1) the earth appears older than it really is
(2) man has no ability to determine the true age of the earth because God started the earth aged.
There is no correlation between the age of the earth and the beginning of time, which makes sense since God is outside of the dimension of time. He may have had other reasons for doing this as well, such as confounding the wisdom of the wise (see 1 Cor 1:26-27 NLT, 1 Cor 3:19, etc. See choose
which builds this out further.)
Millions of Years
Scientists point to the fact that according to science, it would take millions of light years for the beams of light from the nearest stars to reach the earth, meaning it couldn't be only approximately 6,000 years old as Bible genealogy from Adam to Jesus show
. However, knowing God created the star and the beam of light emitted from the star, science, math, the laws of nature, the whole earth, sun, moon, and stars, etc., I am convinced that God in his sovereignty created the beam of light and set it in place during the first six days of creation.
Are Scientists Dating Wrong?
Not necessarily. To begin with, I trust God more than scientists. So that has nothing to do with the merit of the scientific community's work. If scientists truly have no basis for correlation between apparent age of the earth and actual beginning of our time period, then scientists may be accurately dating the apparent age.
Is this any different than a Software Engineer migrating data (either manually or automatically) as part of the upgrade, when the schema changes?
The Software Engineer prepares the new schema and migrates the Production data from the old schema into the new schema's tables/columns to prepare for client's use.
God created the sun, moon, stars and it would make sense that God drew the beams of light to the earth to prepare for Adam and Eve's use. How do they use? Good question. Plants and trees continue to grow, Adam and Eve have life-sustaining temperatures on earth, etc.
In conclusion, God's word is true and it can be trusted. Every detail is intentional. It shows the chicken came first. Then the egg.
